21st Annual Wild West Relay

Fri August 2 - Sat August 3, 2024 Fort Collins, CO 80524 US

Start Times

***2024 WWR Start Times will be released one (1) week after registration closes.  We will send out an email to Team Captains and post the starting grid here. Stay tuned!

To get an idea of the time your team would start. Each team member will be asked their average per mile time during a 10K. We will then compile those numbers to average out what your overall teams average per mile time would be during a 10K. Faster times will start later in the morning and slower times will start earlier in the morning on race day. It is important to be honest with your time as we want to ensure everyone is through all the exchanges at the appropriate times, having a blast interacting with other teams along the adventure, and reaching that finish line in a timely manner. The last thing we want to do is hold a team up at an exchange zone because they are too early or have a team at an exchange before it is open...this is to keep everyone safe.

Team starting times won't be announced until after registration closes. Start times are assigned to enable a smooth flow of teams across the entire relay route. Thus, teams of different paces could be mixed together in each wave. Each wave will go off on time. Teams should show up at the start 30 - 40 minutes before their start time to allow time to go through the check-in process.

Wave times are calculated so that all teams are to Exchange 10 before 4:30 PM; if a team does not arrive at Exchange 10 before 4:30, their Leg 11 runner will start and the team will be reclassified as Helter Skelter.

Requests to change an assigned start times are possible. The LAST DAY a request to change a start time is this Sunday July 23rd. There is a $100 fee to change your start time. Starting July 24th, no start time changes will be made.

IMPORTANT - While the whole team is not required to be at the start, ALL required safety equipment from both vehicles will need to be checked-in in order to start. If your Van 2 has their safety equipment and doesn't come to the start, you will not will not be permitted to start until your Van 2 shows up to show us the equipment. You'll then have to drive ahead, skipping legs, to get where you would have been if you started on time. With the new registration process each team member and team supplied volunteer will have signed a waiver electronically, which will be kept on file at the race start. Should you have a substitution for a teammate or a team supplied volunteer, please contact the run.Colorado Relay Crew.

If you are late to the start, you will not be able to start at a later time. You will need to drive ahead and start running where you would have been if you had arrived on time.

We manage the relay (via cutoff times at exchanges) so all teams finish by NOON on Saturday. This is based on a 10:30 pace for a team that started at 5:00 AM. If you start falling behind the pace you expect, you need to pay close attention to the Exchange Cut-off Times as they will be enforced.

Teams that get ahead of the opening times of the exchanges will be stopped and held in place until they won't be ahead of the volunteers arriving at the exchanges. No time adjustments will be made; the time you were held will be counted towards your total time. This is the penalty for not being accurate in your total time estimate.

Please review the Relay Handbook and/or Leg Map books for the firm cut-off times at different points along the route. If a team has not reached these points by the cut off time, the team will have to skip a leg(s) by driving ahead. Teams will not be disqualified, but will be reclassified as Helter Skelter teams. Only teams who refuse to jump ahead to stay ahead of the exchanges closing, will be disqualified from the race. This is a safety issue as teams need to get through exchanges while they are still staffed.

The finish line and post race experience will open at 8:30 AM so plan accordingly if you arrive before then. You are welcome to arrive earlier and hang out at the finish, but 8:30 is when all the excitement begins!

If your team category has changed, please let us know. You can let us know as late as the start if you want to change your Category.

Any changes, additions, substitutions of runners needs to be submitted at the start with a Substitution Form. There is a $15 fee per substitution form. There is no fee for changing a volunteer or driver.
