6th Annual Canines Against Cancer Support WALK

In 2018, when founder Cindy Sheridan Murphy was leading in-person support groups, she often heard how much comfort, love, and companionship pets, especially dogs and cats, brought to survivors during treatment. Those heartfelt stories sparked an idea: to create a fundraiser honoring our four-legged companions while raising critical funds for EMWA’s much needed survivorship programs. 

The very 1st Canines Fur Cancer Support Walk was scheduled for April 2020. But when the world shifted, so did she. EMWA quickly transitioned to virtual platforms to ensure no survivor ever felt alone. By 2021, EMWA adopted a hybrid model—and they haven’t stopped since.

Each Moment We’re Alive (EMWA) remains steadfast in its mission: to walk beside individuals and families as they navigate both the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and the often-overlooked life after treatment ends.

As a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit—built by survivors for survivors—EMWA proves that even a small organization can make a national impact. Through Zoom and other virtual tools, we now support survivors across the country.

EMWA provides all our programs and services FREE of charge, offering trusted resources and compassionate support that help cancer survivors reclaim life with dignity, strength, and hope. Because survivorship is more than surviving—it’s about living fully, with community by your side.
