Run/Walk Courses
5K Course Map | 10K Course Map | Half Course Map
Pike Lake is a technical course with roots, ruts, rocks and a couple "rolling" hills. Ok, it's one of the most challenging courses in the Wisconsin Trail Assail Series.
The 5K course is long. Also note that GPS watches vary greatly on this course. We have measured it with multiple devices many time and it can vary up to 1/2 mile on the half marathon course.
The course distances will not be exact since it is trail running, and, as nice as the park people are, they won't let us cut down trees to make new paths.
The course is well marked with 12X12 turn arrows, 3' tall course signs, and orange SCSE cones. It does not use the traditional trail tape or markings.
Walkers are welcome to participate in any distance! When registering, select the distance in which you would like to participate. Please check the course closure time to ensure you can finish the distance you choose before the course closes.
Although the Walk division is a timed event, it is not a competitive event. There are no age group awards for the Walk division. Walkers will still receive a finisher woodle!

Early Start & Course Closures
As much as we’d love to spend days/nights/weekends at our favorite race sites, our permits only allow us to be on site for a limited amount of time. We are required to close the course to stay within those limits and, unfortunately, participants will not be permitted to continue once the course is closed for the final lap. The course will close for the final lap at 9:30am.
If you are concerned about being able to finish the half marathon in the allotted time, we want to help you achieve your running goals, so we offer an early start for those who need a little more time. Early start half marathoners will receive a chip time, but are not eligible for age group awards or series awards. The course may not be marked, course marshals & police may not be on course, aid stations may not be set, and the course is open to the public. The early start is ONLY for half marathons.
Those that are not participating in the half marathon and start early will not receive an official time and will be disqualified. Additionally, participants who continue after being asked to stop will be disqualified.
Aid Stations & Bag Drop
There will be three aid stations on the half marathon course. Aid stations will have water, sports drink & energy gels. If you would like to drop a bag on course with your own hydration and nutritional supplies, there will be an area at the end of the first lap to do so (half marathon). Some of the aid stations may be self serve.
Restrooms
There will be restrooms & portlets at the start/finish line.
Volunteers
We need volunteers for everything from aid station support to course marshals. If you or your group have an interest in volunteering, we would greatly appreciate the assistance. All volunteers can run a future race at no charge. Register to volunteer by clicking on the volunteer link in the menu above. For more information on volunteering click here.

This is a Cupless race!
The Wisconsin Trail Assail Series is a cupless series!
The idea of throwing 100,000+ cups in a landfill each year doesn’t seem in line with what most runners support. This has been in the works for 2+ years, but covid interrupted its implementation. Now is the time to do it!
Don’t worry, we’re NOT doing away with aid stations. There will still be aid stations with water and sports drinks at events, just no cups! You will need to bring a reusable cup with you. We are also expanding the areas for a bag drop where you can leave a nutrition/hydration bag.
