Back for its third year and redesigned for its best year yet.

The New River Rush is not your average adventure race. This is a full-send experience through one of the most iconic landscapes in the country, combining rugged terrain, technical navigation, and world-class guided whitewater inside the breathtaking canyon walls of the New River Gorge National Park.

If you’re looking for a race that feels like an expedition, this is it.

The higher entry fee is due to guided whitewater rafting.  This is truly a wild and adventurous experience!

Course Overview

    • Paddle - 1.5-3 Hours of World Class Whitewater, Professionally Guided 

    • Bike - ~30 miles of biking on a variety of Single-Track, Double-Track, Gravel, and Paved Terrain. 

    • Trek - 5-15 miles (minimum and maximum distances total) across two legs. The terrain will involve trail and off-trail movement with elevation drop/gain and route choices. Cliffbands, waterfalls, and other features will be highlighted for those completing the entire course. 

    • Note: We have three course designs with the National Park (Fair Weather, Poor Weather, Severe Weather). Decisions will be made 48 hours in advance based on conditions onto which course will be implemented for the race. All courses will feature phenomenal whitewater and a fun/engaging course design!

Logistics Summary

    • You will only have 1 x small dry bag per person on the paddle section. All Mandatory Gear will be transported to the paddle pull-out including your race backpacks. 

    • Must use outfitter PFD and Helmets; Cannot bring your own. 

    • 27 Gallon Tote will be used to transport race packs, gear, and dry/wet clothes. (1 x Team)

    • You will have TAs to stage/resupply from during the race; you will not have to carry significant supplies.
    • Bike Drop at a location TBD. 

    • 1-2 TAs will be co-located with open restaurants.

    • You will have access to hot showers and changing rooms after the race. 

    • Hot Meal Post Race at The Lost Paddle provided by the race organization. 

      • You may purchase alcohol from the bar if you choose on your own. 

    • Key Drop Available at Morning Pre-Race Check-In

Mandatory Gear Individual

    • Appropriate Clothing for the Race and Weather. (See Suggested Items Below)

      • Logistical support will provide the ability for your to have a change of clothes after the paddle section. 

    • Small dry-bag for Paddle similar to this style: Dry Bag

    • Water and Food for the race. 

      • For the whitewater paddle. You will store small snacks and water in the dry bag. 

    • Emergency blanket
