Tug Hill Outfitters is hosting a fun, challenging, yeti themed adventure race on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in Williamstown, NY. Racers must use snowshoes or backcountry skis to travel during the race (pending snow conditions). Teams will navigate the course using only a map and compass, no GPS allowed, and compete to see who can find the most checkpoints in the least amount of time. If teams don't make it back before the time cut-off, they will lose 1 checkpoint for every minute they're late. A long sleeve performance race T-shirt, 1 set of maps (per team with the option to purchase an extra set during registration),  post race snacks & pizza, hot chocolate, and one craft beer per person, is included in the registration price. Team sizes can range from 1-6 people (cap of 4 people for adult teams, but families can race with up to 6 people).

This race has something for everyone, from families and newcomers, to competitive adventure racers and orienteering teams who are looking for a fun challenge in a cool place! If you're into trail running, hiking, geocaching, treasure hunting, or have seen Eco Challenge Fiji on Amazon, this race and the sport of adventure racing are for you! We've got some serious fun in store for you, from a lively prologue to some exciting on course surprises! Are you yeti?

Race Description: You can choose from two race categories:

  • 3 Hour Race - This is a snowshoe race covering approximately 2-4 miles. This race will be ideal for families or people new to adventure racing and navigation. Terrain features include woods, fields, streams, and groomed trails. For those who remember our fall race, which included some soggy areas, we'll try to keep your feet drier for the winter race! There will be a free navigation clinic before the start of this race.
  • 6 Hour Race - For this race, there will be two categories to choose from for mode of travel during the race: 1. Snowshoe Only or 2. Snowshoe/Backcountry Ski (carry your skis/snowshoes during the race and interchange between them on the course whenever you want. There will be one designated transition area where you can drop your skis if you choose to). This race is ideal for those with adventure racing and orienteering experience, or for those looking for a challenge. The 6 hour race will cover approximately 6-8 miles, and include navigation through woods, fields, streams, and groomed trails. Top teams will likely clear the course in under 6 hours, while other teams will not get to all of the checkpoints within the allotted time.
