NSDAR Junior Membership 5K “Remember the Ladies” - 2023 Back In Time

If you missed the 2023 race but still want to earn your medal for the three year collection, here is your chance! 

Just like the NSDAR Junior Membership 5K, you can complete this race ANYTIME, ANYWHERE! You are not required to submit a time and we do not track completion to earn the medal, all you need to do is register. Medals can be picked up at Continental Congress this summer. All medals not collected at Congress will be shipped. 

About the 2023 Race

In a now famous letter written by Abigail Adams, she urged her husband, John Adams, to “remember the ladies.” As we race towards America’s 250th anniversary, the Juniors urge you to do the same! This is a healthy and fun way for members, friends, and guests to come together and share our sparkle in support of the NSDAR Helen Pouch Memorial Fund. 

Each year of the Wright Administration, the virtual 5k will highlight the unique contributions of women to the American Revolution. The 2023 race celebrated Polly Cooper of the Oneida Indian Nation. During the harsh winter of 1777-78 that George Washington and his Continental Army spent at Valley Forge, Polly provided medical aid and cooked for the soldiers. The expedition was also sent with a surplus of white corn from the Oneida Indian Nation.

To honor Polly, the 2023 race medal features a cooking pot and ears of white corn. **Click here to view an image of the medal.** The medals have been designed with the three year race theme in mind. This year's medal is fan-shaped and when placed with the fan-shaped medals of the 2024 and 2025 races will create a circle. Make sure you register for the 2024 race (registration is separate) to ensure you complete your collection! 

The virtual NSDAR Junior Membership 5k is easy to complete! You can complete the race on your own time in whatever method you find easiest for you - we’ve seen walkers, runners, swimmers, bikers and more! Not able to complete the race? That's okay too! This is a fundraiser at heart and your registration fee is essential to supporting the initiatives of the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund. 

We hope you’ll encourage your friends, family, chapter members, coworkers, pets and more to participate with you! You do NOT have to be a member of DAR to participate and this virtual event is open to anyone who would like to support Junior Membership.

About the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund

The Helen Pouch Memorial Fund (HPMF) was authorized in 1938, and finances projects chosen by the Junior Membership Committee with approval of the NSDAR Executive Committee. Projects include annual contributions to the DAR Schools, the National Junior Committee Project, and the Junior Membership Classroom Grants Program. We meet this commitment through contributions to the Fund from the sale of NSDAR-approved Junior Sales products, general donations to the fund and other fundraisers like this 5K.
