The Lisa Wade Scholarship

Donation Goal: $4,000

The Georges Creek Soccer Club has been there to give back to the community and are always there to help out a family in need or the youth in the area in anyway we can. To date we have given $44,900.00 in scholarships. Thank you for your consideration.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!  It’s hard to believe we’ve already celebrated Lisa with twenty-four 5K Runs, including two “virtual runs” when the pandemic tried to bring us down.  Number 25, THE FINAL RACE, is coming this July!

Lisa would be 40 years old April 22!  It’s futile to wonder what her life would be like today.  It’s easier on the emotions to celebrate the 15 years that she graced this earth. The number of friends that she accumulated, along the way, shows that she lived a great life.

Since the first race, we have added two family members to our 5K celebration.  Lisa’s cousin, Corey Broadwater, passed away in 2008.  We added “Corey’s Course”, a quarter mile race around the park for the young participants.  When their Uncle Bob passed away in 2016, his family continued his annual donation, which was renamed the “Bob Broadwater Bounty”.   We also suffered the losses of all of Lisa and Corey’s grandparents.  Pete and Norma Broadwater, and their dog Muffy, were devoted supporters of the races.

This is it, the final HOORAH!   It wouldn’t be fitting to not take time to thank everyone who has supported us through all these years.   The financial supporters, plus those that donated door prizes and refreshments, have always been deeply appreciated. We also sincerely thank our friends, who have graciously donated their time helping us pull off these events.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!!

The Lisa Wade Annual Run has been very well attended from its first run in 2000, until its last run in 2024. It has always been well supported by many of the families in the Tri-Towns along with the running community that is “The Queen City Striders”. This year will be a milestone year, as we mark off our 25th year of the Lisa Wade / Corey Broadwater / Bob Broadwater event. Sadly, this will also be our final race event. Our scholarship will continue but will be solely funded by our annual Scholarships From Angels cash bash.

The support we get from the local businesses has always been a bonus to  our scholarship awards. As of this year the Lisa Wade Scholarship has returned over $44,900.00 back to the community. It goes without saying that we have struggled the past years with the closing of Verso, the Covid pandemic and the economy in general. We have seen a decline in attendance, but this past year we started to see an upward trend and hopefully we can start putting up the numbers that we had prior to 2019.

I would just like to thank all the sponsors that have helped us through the years and hope to have you on board with us again this year. Our goal is to put on an event that our area can be proud of. The Lisa Wade event is a day of celebration, and we have met so many families that have come out and participated. It’s always a special day and the scholarships have been well received at the area high schools.

Thank You in advance for being a part of this event. We are hosting this run /walk on Saturday , July the 12th , at Creekside Park in Westernport. This event is open to everyone.  After the main event we host Corey’s Course. This is a free children's event that consist of a lap around the park. This has always been a big hit with the youth of the area. Our event also has a reward for individuals that set course records. The Bob Broadwater Bounty sponsored by Bob’s family (Sue, Josh and Holly) has also been a great incentive for our event. So come on out and support us as we remember some very special people that have made a difference in so many lives.
