The True Blue 5K is a long-running staple in Georgia Southern’s Homecoming traditions.
The Eagle Nation’s first Homecoming 5K was The Road Race 5K Spirit Run on Oct. 20, 1984. Campus Recreation and Intramurals hosted the first Georgia Southern Homecoming 5K Road Race in 1996, and this event was eventually renamed The Southern Sprint for Wellness 5K. The race was re-themed for the last time in 2011, now officially titled The True Blue 5K, as a celebration of Georgia Southern’s True Blue pride.

Remembering Abbie

Abbie DeLoach will always be a shining example of True Blue pride.
As a bright nursing student at Georgia Southern, Abbie joined Kappa Delta Sorority, a legacy shared with her mother. With outstanding leadership skills, she was her sorority’s Recommendation Chairman, a leader of the Homecoming step team, and an Intramural Basketball champion. Abbie, along with four of her fellow nursing students, tragically lost their lives on their way to their last clinical rotation in Savannah. Still, her legacy lives on.
Since 2018, the Abbie DeLoach Foundation has sponsored The True Blue 5K to continue Abbie’s love for adventure, her friends and her community. Every year, we come together to honor and continue Abbie’s legacy with every step.
