Description
The North Bend Run Squad, sponsored by the NBES PTA, is an opportunity for students to run for fitness and fun, while learning about proper stretching and running techniques. Participants will learn to keep a positive attitude, work hard, and set goals, while making new friends.
Students do not need to be "runners" or play a sport to participate. We will begin each session with stretching and warmup exercises, followed by a quick talk about the goal of that day's session. We will create an environment where all children are supported and encouraged regardless of how far or fast they can run. Groups will incorporate, walking, jogging, sprinting, and different games to keep all children engaged.
SCHEDULE
North Bend Run Squad is an AFTERSCHOOL activity, running from 3:30pm - 4:30pm, on the following days:
- Thursday, May 9th
- Thursday, May 16th
- Thursday, May 23th
- Thursday, May 30th
- Thursday, June 6th
In the event we cancel any of the sessions due to poor field conditions, there will not be a make-up date. Parents are responsible for picking up their child from the fields behind the school promptly at 4:30pm. If you are late picking up your child more than once, your child will not be permitted to participate in the remaining sessions.
Run Squad participants will meet in the gymnasium immediately after school for check-in. We will then stretch and run outside. Our running course is located on school property.
RUN SQUAD SHIRTS
Each program participant will receive a North Bend Run Squad t-shirt. Please have your child wear their shirt to school each Thursday. Shirts are short-sleeved, 100% cotton, and available in the following sizes:
- Youth Small
- Youth Medium
- Youth Large
- Adult Small
- Adult Medium
- Adult Large
WHAT TO BRING
Your child will need to have gym shoes, appropriate running clothing for outside, and water. If your child requires medication, or has a serious health concern (such as asthma), you will need to be present for the entire session. Our school nurse will not be present during the session.
We will provide a small healthy snack and Gatorade prior to each session. Please list any food allergies your child has when you register them.
VOLUNTEERS
The success of this program depends on parent volunteers, and you do not need to run in order to help :) If you are interested in volunteering please click here to sign up!
WEATHER POLICY
In the event of inclement weather, the session will be cancelled. Parents and guardians will be notified via email (using the email address provided during registration) regarding important program updates and cancelations due to weather.
