Description
When Kelsey and Tom Medvecky had their son born at 26 weeks and weighing in at a mere 1lb 15oz, they knew it would be a long road. With the help and support of family and friends, and even generous strangers, they managed to get through what would be the hardest months of their lives. Callan Patrick is a fighter and took on the odds and came out of the Pennsylvania Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit after over 100 days thriving.
Together, they knew they would need to find a way to give this miracle to others. That was the beginning of Cal's Pals- a 501c3 charity aimed to help families who are in similar positions. The costs of having a child in the NICU or PICU goes beyond just medical expenses. It is their hope that this charity will help to lift the emotional and financial burden off those who are giving their all to be with their children in a trying time. The last thing parents need to think about when their child is sick is where the money will come from.
The Cal's Pals Paddle for Preemies is an approx. 120 mile paddle from Cape May, NJ to Sandy Hook, NJ to support families with children in the NICU and PICU. Moving North along the coast, a select and elite group of water men and women will make their way together covering the total distance. If these NICU warriors can spend hundreds of days in intensive care, we can paddle a few miles!
