We Climb For…

In 2026, we mark 25 years since the September 11th attacks on our city and our nation. We honor the FDNY’s heroic actions on that day, saving countless lives. We will always remember the 343 FDNY members who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the more than 400 who have since passed from 9/11-related illnesses. We climb in honor and memory of those heroic FDNY heroes, who without hesitation, ran into the burning towers on that tragic September day saving thousands of innocent lives. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The Climb by the Numbers

Date – April 19, 2026
Location – One Vanderbilt
How High You Will Climb – 1,100 Feet

Every Step Counts!

In the last few years, firefighters had to run up 21 flights of stairs wearing full bunker gear weighing upwards of 60 lbs. in 70+ degree weather to rescue families trapped in a fire in a high-rise building as the elevators were inoperable. After such a strenuous climb, they then executed a lifesaving roof rope rescue on the outside of the building to save the occupants. Timing, training and physical fitness all played an integral part of the success of this life-saving incident.

The FDNY Foundation's mission is to promote fire and life safety education and help the FDNY better protect New York. They fund programs that advance the FDNY’s goals which include maintaining operational excellence, reaching out to the community with fire and life safety programs, and ensuring that our first responders have the best available training and equipment.

How it Works...

Once you register, you will automatically become an Individual Fundraiser.  Your $100 entry fee will go toward the $400 minimum fundraising requirement. You will have until April 12, 2026, to complete your fundraising.  Should a portion of the minimum ($400) not be raised by the deadline, the credit card that was used to register will be charged the difference on April 12, 2026.

You can also choose to be part of a team by joining an existing team or creating a new team.  All fundraising will go toward an individual’s fundraising goal but just as fire response teams work together in the line of duty, so too will the fundraising efforts of each climber work to support their team’s fundraising initiative.
