Remember this is where two great lakes meet.  When mother nature is nice you would be hard pressed to find a better setting for a swim course.  When mother nature is upset the swim can be rough, cold and in some cases canceled. The great lakes can "FLIP" this is a phenomenom in all the great lakes when all of the cold water on the bottom quickly comes to the surface replacing the warm water.  We have had water drop 20 degrees in 4 hrs. at great lakes events.   So with this race we are at the mercy of the great lakes.   

To prioritize safety and minimize stress during the swim leg of the Race the Straits Triathlons, we implement a time trial start system. 

Before entering the water, each athlete will need to report their assigned number to the timer, ensuring accurate tracking and timing. International distance and Sprint athletes will commence first, followed by Super Sprint athletes approximately 30 minutes later.

The swim course, while subject to slight variations based on wind conditions, guarantees an unforgettable experience as participants swim beneath the majestic Mackinac Bridge. The only place where you can swim under a bridge crossing back and forth in two great lakes, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. 

****Please note that the entry/exit point is a rocky terrain due to the location at Mackinaw's point. Therefore water shoes are ALLOWED!  

Rest assured, the swim course will be closely monitored by lifeguards, search and rescue teams, and the sheriff's marine division to ensure the safety of all participants. Please be mindful that the beach start will occur on a rocky beach rather than sand, so prepare accordingly for a unique and memorable swim experience.

WETSUIT RENTAL
For those in need of a wetsuit, rentals are available for $50, including full, sleeveless, or shorty options.

To ensure your wetsuit is pulled at the warehouse and brought to the event.  Please make your reservation on or before the Tuesday before the event.  This can be done at our online store.  Your reservation is held with a $10 non-refundable deposit which does apply to the total cost of your wetsuit rental.  The remainder is paid upon pickup of your wetsuit at the event.  ($40 cash ONLY)
