- Now entering its tenth year, the Lobo Cancer Challenge is the premier fundraising and community outreach event benefiting the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- Held annually in September, it offers bike rides, a 5K run/walk, a stair challenge and a Cub Pack Fun Run for children.
- Starting line and finish line celebrations are held at University Stadium, home of UNM Lobo football.
- Every dollar that Challengers raise goes to their choice of fund that supports cancer treatment, research, clinical trials, education and training, or community outreach at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- Sponsorship is critical to allow the Center to direct 100% of participants’ fundraising to education, research, and patient care. In 2025, 1,940 participants in 77 teams along with more than 300 volunteers and 48 sponsors joined together to raise more than $683,000 in support of world-class cancer care and research at the UNM Cancer Center. As the only NCI-designated cancer center within a 500-mile radius, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center has the state’s largest team of cancer physicians and serves more than 15,000 patients each year from every county in the state. Its mission is to focus scientific and clinical expertise—as well as interdisciplinary education and training programs—on those cancers that have high incidence, mortality, or unequal distributions among the populations of New Mexico.
The significant barriers to cancer treatment in our state require financial support far beyond its budget. The UNM Cancer Center depends upon the generosity of donors and community partners to help honor its commitment as a public service health organization and to reduce the health barriers its patients face.
