Event Description
Teams will Paddle, Bike, Trek, and Navigate to collect Checkpoints over a large geographical area. You'll be using a map and magnetic compass with no help from GPS. Bring plenty of energy, determination, and teamwork. This beautiful arena will be a worthy adversary and an adventure playground.
We're kicking off the Spring Season with our top-notch regional race. Get your team together, dust off your equipment and skills, and join us for the challenge and the celebration.
This year we'll have a twelve-hour and six-hour race to choose from. If you've ever done this before, then choose the 12-hour. If this is completely new to you, we'll challenge you with the 6-hour race and you'll come back wanting more.
Still not sure exactly what to expect? We understand - that is part of the appeal and challenge of this sport. If this type of event is new to you, we welcome you and we’ll support you. You'll find all the experienced participants to be friendly, helpful, and cheering you on. And when you finish, you will know that you and your team just did something special.
For experienced racers, we can promise that all three disciplines will factor into your success. This course will deliver a satisfying combination of strategic route planning, technical orienteering, and physical achievement.
- Canoes are included for the 12-hour race
- There is no paddling in the 6-hour race
- Both races will spend about half the time on-foot
More details to come...
There are Restrooms and Porta-potties at the Race HQ, Carriage House Farm. For the 12-Hour race, most TAs also have a Porta-pottie. While out on the course, you will come across restrooms but few and far between.
We are only allowing teams of 2-4 in the 12-Hour race, with no exceptions. This is for safety, especially while paddling. We can try to pair you up with a teammate. Send us an email.
All registered participants will receive our highly acclaimed Race Communique about a week prior to the race. This 23-page document will satisfy your every craving for knowledge about what you are about to endure...I mean enjoy.
Additionally we'll send you a welcome video with some last-minute tips and reminders. And that way you can meet us before we all meet on race day.
This is important, and we'll reiterate it in the Communique, but it will be too late by then.
- In order to get the most from this experience, besides just the best possible result, your team has to move fast. You have to practice for both physical fitness and team efficiency
- Practice navigation. No matter your level of experience, we all get rusty without practice. The navigation will be rather difficult and we want everyone to thrive and avoid unnecessary frustration. Distance, bearing, elevation.
- Finally, combining the above two items: It is important, especially for the team captain to have a good understanding of how fast you expect your team to move. Estimating times to complete each segment is a key part of the strategy
