For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, the Sunrise Side Triathlons & Duathlon implements a time trial start system for the swim leg. This ensures a clear and stress-free swim experience for everyone involved. Athletes will self-seed according to their actual 500m swim time, avoiding congestion and potential safety hazards in the water.
Before entering the water, each athlete must report their assigned number to the timer, ensuring accurate tracking and timing. Long course athletes will commence first, followed by Sprint athletes after approximately 30 minutes, and Super Sprint athletes after an additional 20 minutes.
Prepare for a pristine swim in the crystal-clear waters of Tawas Bay (Lake Huron), with water temperatures typically ranging between 63 and 72 degrees in September. The swim course, set parallel to the beach and in water depths of 5-6 feet, promises optimal conditions for a smooth and enjoyable swim.
The swim leg features an out-and-back course, with buoys marking the route and providing separation of approximately 25 meters between athletes. Lifeguards, the sheriff marine division, and search and rescue teams will be on hand to ensure the safety of all participants throughout the swim.
For Super Sprint athletes, a unique starting procedure involves walking down the beach 200 meters before beginning their swim, ensuring a fair and manageable course for all levels of participants.

WETSUIT RENTAL
For those in need of a wetsuit, rentals are available for $50, including full, sleeveless, or shorty options.
To ensure your wetsuit is pulled at the warehouse and brought to the event. Please make your reservation on or before the Tuesday before the event. This can be done at our online store at the above link. Your reservation is held with a $10 non-refundable deposit which does apply to the total cost of your wetsuit rental. The remainder is paid upon pickup of your wetsuit at the event. ($40 cash ONLY)
